Nosara has fantastic surf and we provide the best possible surf coaching and guiding, but this is not the only reason to visit Nosara. The Guanacaste Peninsula has plenty to keep you entertained when your not surfing and is a great destination for the non surfer.
The beach of Ostional is famous worldwide for its regular Olive Ridley turtle nestings and subsequent hatchings. Thousands of these magnificent turtles can be seen at times, the largest “arribada” thus far had a calculated 500 000 females come ashore! You can see the Turtles the whole year round if you are lucky enough to be here on the correct moon phase. The best time to see them is before first light, as daylight arrives they make the long, slow trip back to the ocean. A magnificent and unique spectacle that is an unmissable life experience.
Nosara is a Yoga center, there are several great studios that have world class staff and facilities. There are sessions at most times of the day that are open to anybody and any level, private sessions are also available on request. Pilates is an option in many places as are some some surf specific classes like “Fit to rip” and “stretching for surfers”. These services are available at the following places. Miss Sky Canopy Tour is the longest in the world (The next longest is less than 50% of the length) and is a fantastic way to see the amazing Costa Rican landscape from a very different angle. This is suitable for experienced paddlers and first timers. It is a exciting way to view the Lagarta Lodge Nature Reserve from a different angle. They also offer on ocean paddle tours and surf trips so you can take your skills out onto the big blue.
The Lagarta Nature Reserve is set alongside the beautiful Nosara river and is home to 270 different species of birds, Monkeys, Coatis, Raccoons, Armadillos, Snakes, Anteaters, Crabs, Reptiles and much more. But the real beauty of this reserve is the fantastic flora, there are great (and huge) examples of rare tropical trees. The tour takes about 2 hours so you will be ready for a drink when you finish. Luckily The Lagarta Lodge bar is at the exit and just happens to serve the best cocktails in the area, which you can enjoy while enjoying a stunning view of the park.
If you are lucky while you are in Nosara there will be a local rodeo, these Rodeos give you a real feel for Costa Rican cowboy culture and are a full evenings entertainment. All the people from the local villages come out and get involved in the Fiesta atmosphere. Expect bull riding, local food and a lot of excitable commentary. Several fishing charter boats operate from the beautiful bay of Garza. these great crews give you the chance to catch Sailfish, Rooster Fish, Tuna, Amberjack, Dorado, Wahoo, Marlin and more. Remember this can also be combined with a surf guiding trip to some of Costa Ricas’ secret spots. Fishing Nosara and Secret Spot run two of the best operations.
Experience one of Nosara’s hidden gems, this tucked away waterfall destination is a refreshing treat following a 45 minute moderate hike. The hike involves crossing a creek a half dozen times, traversing a cattle farm, and weaving through a primary canopy of tropical dry forest. Discover a series of brilliant swimming holes and small waterfalls, each cascading from one to another at the end of the hike. Guided trips are provided by Experience Nosara. It is also possible to do this trip on horseback by request.
Walk, trot or gallop your way around the stunning scenery surrounding Nosara on Horseback. Boca Nosara Tours and Playa Ponies provide horse riding tours on the beach or guided trips that can take you through rivers, jungle paths, traditional cattle farms and local villages.
